Discussing Nabokov's Lolita, which his correspondent has lent him: "I am reading it with delight and with amusement, and occasionally shaking with laughter. The indecencies and obscenities are not in my line and are sometimes even repellent, but I cannot get upset at them when they are connected with so much civilization and wit, nor can I start wondering whether the book 'ought' to be banned or not ..."
